JPLIT 4406 - Introduction to Classical Japanese (4 Credits)  
This course focuses on comprehension and reading of texts composed in bungo (literary Japanese), the official written form of Japanese from the Heian period until the mid-20th century. Some attention is also paid to pre-Heian Japanese. JPLIT 4406 introduces the fundamental grammar and vocabulary of classical Japanese.
Prerequisites: JAPAN 3302 or permission of instructor.

JPLIT 6606 - Introduction to Classical Japanese (4 Credits)  
This course, the graduate counterpart of JPLIT 4406, focuses on comprehension and reading of texts composed in bungo (literary Japanese), the official written form of Japanese from the Heian period until the mid-20th century. Some attention is also paid to pre-Heian Japanese. JPLIT 4406 introduces the fundamental grammar and vocabulary of classical Japanese. Meets concurrently with JPLIT 4406, but involves additional assignments.
Prerequisites: JAPAN 3302 or permission of instructor.  
JPLIT 6625 - Directed Readings (4 Credits)  
Students choose a faculty member to oversee this independent study. The student and the faculty member work together to develop class readings.
